1. Liljevalch Museum (Free on Mondays!)

This unique independent art gallery provides a treat for those wanting to experience contemporary art with a difference.
Located in the cultural hub of Djurgarden, Liljevalch typically showcases up to 4 different art exhibitions a year.

The Spring Salon is an exciting seasonal exhibition running from mid February to April bringing professional and amateur artists together.
This exhibition displays artwork to the public with the chance to buy which has been a tradition within Sweden for over 100 years

2. Bonniers Konsthall (Free on Fridays)

Another one making it into our free museum guide is the exquisite art gallery of Bonniers Konsthall.
It’s located near St. Eriksplan in the central area of Stockholm offering a unique perspective of modern art. This was one of the most interesting free museums we enjoyed on this particular trip!
Expect to find emerging artists breaking through with new forms of art to inspire and challenge the viewer. The current exhibition of Frida Orupabo (see pic above) shines a lens around inequality around gender and race via the use of mixed media forms leaving you wanting more.
It’s here you’ll find a mixture of film, literature and music all making a significant impact to the Stockholm cultural scene.

Each visit will keep things fresh where different contemporary art exhibitions through the year to help drive the senses.
Bonniers Konsthall is arguably the most dynamic gallery from the list providing you free entry for you on a Friday!

3. The Moderna Museet (Museum of Modern Art) (Free on Fridays 18.00-20.00!!)
Moderna Museet is the complete hub of modern art harnessing more pieces and bringing the biggest post modern exhibitions. Situated at Skeppsholmen this is perfect for travellers who want to dip their toe into a bit of culture if strapped for time.
Expect to see legendary artist work from the likes of Andy Warhol, Picasso and Dali whilst current exhibitions such as the recent German Expressionism keeps things diverse.
The museum is free admission on Fridays between 18.00-20,00 which is great news if you’re on a tighter budget!

4. Ark Des (Swedish Center for Architecture and Design)

Stockholm’s Architecture and Design museum is a must for any creative mind while the free admission makes this a complete visitors dream!
Ark Des is home to Stockholm’s alluring collection of architecture providing that all important rich cultural experience. Set on the suitably scenic island of Skeppsholmen, design lovers will be pleased to know that Ark Des shares the same space as Moderna Museet.
Travel couples will love how the overall design will ignite good conversation and debate whether looking at Scandinavian minimalism, urban planning innovation or even stylish furniture design.
